Walking tour of the African Union Church Cemetery

Located in Delaware City, the African Union Church Cemetery was lost for years. It was discovered in 1996 and restored over two decades. A unique setting in Delaware history-the cemetery tells the stories of generations of African Americans and is the resting place of 5 members of the US Colored Troops who served bravely in the Civil War. This Cemetery is all that remains of the Polktown Community. One of the earliest free black settlements in Delaware. The two hour event includes presentation by Dr. David Orr, Professor Emeritus, Temple University and a walking tour starting from the Delaware City Library to the African Union Church Cemetery, lunch and a showing of the video Voices Long Forgotten, featuring Willis Phelps.

Program Cost: PDI Members $20 and Non-Members $25.00
