June Fun at Auburn Heights in 2002

June Fun at Auburn Heights
Magic was in the air on June 7th amd 8th as Auburn Heights was filled with the laughter and joy of children of all ages.

On Friday evening Ruth and Tom Marshall, our gracious hosts, shared their marvelous collection of Stanley Steamer cars and offered rides in an early French electric car and a 1915 Stanley Steamer Mountain Car. The highlight of the evening was being a kid again as partygoers circled the property on the Auburn Valley Railroad.

On Saturday, over 100 families participated in Preservation Delaware’s first Family Fun Day. The Marshalls again shared their collection and offered rides on all their marvelous steam machines. The highlight of the day was riding on the Auburn Valley Railroad. Powered by steam engines, the garden railroad spent the day circling the property with happy passengers. Thanks to the Hagley Museum and Library, who provided nineteenth-century lawn games and crafts, and to Mr. Marshall’s Steam Team, who worked very hard to insure everyone had a safe and enjoyable day. Special thanks to Tracy Elliman, Nicole Thompson, Diane du Pont, Vicki Smith and Leonie Hyde for their creative ideas and hard work.

Preservation Delaware typically holds its annual fundraiser in June or July. If you to host or sponsor an events, donate an auction item, or simply come and have a good time please contact us for more information at director@preservationde.org
